White Lies - Unfinished Business

From the icy church organ to the pulsing bass, this is an atmospheric song, with enough personality to stand out from the crowd and feel like an event of sorts, in spite of its definite debt to the 80s.

Having already seen the video, the insistence that I listen to the White Lies single on vinyl seemed unnecessary, but listen I did, and if anything it proved that some of today's music can stand up to the mini-collection of 80s new wave (the golden age of singles, surely) I've amassed from charity shops over the years.

Echo And The Bunnymen is a name that's been dropped, but the more contemporary reference point would be Editors, I suppose: still, there's a touch more gothic melodrama to 'Unfinished Business', and a load more hit-quality than any single by the aforementioned.

Catch them while you can, they have 'overnight success' written all over them.
