We've just received a communication from Dan, the singer from One More Grain:

Today May 1st 2008 I, Daniel Patrick Quinn, announce my retirement from One More Grain and from music altogether.

This is a fairly big decision as I've been active for the best part of a decade with one project or another. It is also the only reasonable decision to make, given the continuous lack of funding and resources from both inside and outside of the industry.

I think I was on a path to making a unique and not inconsiderable contribution to the cultural heritage of these isles, with a huge range of innovative and characterful music projects planned, something that could hardly be said of almost all of today's commercially and financially successful artists. However I have no intention of doing it for free anymore, or indeed actually paying for the privilege.

I won't bore you with the details of all the nonsense I've encountered as of late, suffice to say that if you're trying to do something which requires even a small element of intelligence and broadmindedness then it will most likely end up ignored and completely unfunded, in favour of vast quantities of musical litter that can be sold to morons the world over.

For all the good it's done, I might as well have been pissing in the ocean all these years.

Thanks to the Grain team and to the few who regarded what I was doing as worthwhile.
