A hazy silhouette of outrageous quiffs, a rainfall of reberb, a swathing of Pantone 300 blue, and the heartbeat begins.
It’s Glasvegas’ new video, nothing more sinister than that. The prayers of early demo connoisseurs have been answered and ‘Geraldine’ is the summer single set to outsell everyone else in the world ever and cement their place as this decade’s Oasis, or whatever else the press may choose to brand them as.
The bad news is that it’s simply impossible to outshine the unadulterated emotionally-aseptic glory of the original demo, and that the repetition of the “I’m your social worker” crescendo seems a bit of a spoiler: a bit of a token acknowledgement that a big hit must have a chorus of sorts, when the song is (nay, the band are) bigger than that already.
The good news is that it’s simply impossible to suffocate the glorious power of this song with such a paltry thing as an huge pile of cash.
Single of the year it may well be.
(And if anybody else tells me to “hail the return of real music” I’ll headbutt them.)
