Beloved by broadsheets and bloggers alike for their pretentious name and the ease with which they can be lazily compared to Arcade Fire, Portsmouth’s answer to Arcade Fire, the pretentiously-named The Strange Death of Liberal England have proven with their new single ‘Angelou’ that they can write a single, and that you can sometimes hear what the ginger chap called Adam is wailing, and that neither of these facts detracts from the glory of their being.

‘Angelou’ is a fraught and frantic, feisty firecracker of a song, which – along with the simple but stylish video here, goes some way (but by no means the whole way) to indicating the awesome power of their live show.
