U2 are currently working on ther 12th studio album which is suspected to release in early 2009.

Frontman Bono said U2 will hark back to the sound of their massive-selling 1987 LP 'The Joshua Tree' to return to the band's more iconic albums: "The last two records were very personal, with a kind of three-piece at their heart, the primary colours of rock - bass, guitars and drum. But what we're about now is of the same order as the transition that took us from 'The Joshua Tree' to 'Achtung Baby' (released in 1991).

According to people that already listened to some of the tracks, the new album musically feels like another departure and a brand new chapter...

Furthermore Bono assures that the band won't leave the studio until they created their best album ever: "We know we have to emerge soon," he said, "but we know that people don't want another album unless it is our best ever album. It has to be our most innovative, our most challenging, or what's the point?"

So they are talking big.. in a few months we'll see whether they managed to keep their promise...

...and if we'll like their new album we might see them on stage, because the band is expected to start a world tour in summer!
