They rock like little monkeys shaking a car and pulling all the wing mirrors off, and they're doing a lot of good works for charidee. Rhesus are a band from the leafy suburbs of South West London and the mean streets of Brixton who decided to put together a host of gigs in aid of the Tsunami disaster because they didn't have enough cash in their pockets to contribute themselves.
Since then, along with joyzine.co.uk they've raised over £4,000 and they're still going.
Back in January they put on a rollicking good show featuring about 18 versions of Art Brut, then in February they put on a whole week of shows in venues all across London. Their next step is an all dayer at the Pleasure Unit in Bethnal Green with a line up that includes Chris T-T, The Art Goblins, Jim Bob, Ciccone and Stuffy and The Fuses.
Hello Jim, how are you?
Well mate, knacked but well.
So, what inspired you to do the Tsunami gigs apart from to try to alleviate people's misery and suffering? Did you not think, 'I'd love to do something, but do I have time?'
I was wasted the night before New Ears Eve, was watching the telly, thought lets do a charity gig to raise some money for this, as I had no money of my own to give. I called Paul Joyzine and he was keen, I put word out and everyone was keen! Caffy St Luce helped us loads too.
So what have the highlights of the various show's you've put on so far been?
The first one at the Pleasure Unit was one long highlight! Playing with Art Brut at the 100 Club was amazing as Eddie, Ian and I had discussed our dream gig "Art Brut, Rhesus, Mclusky at the 100 Club" when we met about a year ago, and we nearly made it happen. Then Mclusky split up. The windmill with Jim Bob and Fruitbat was great, total legends. It was all fucking brilliant, the whole week. Then realising we had raised over $4000 by having fun with our friends. That was the best bit.
You've got another show coming up on the 23rd of April yes?
Yeah - a festival of loud and quiet, you can see listings for details... Chris T-T, Art Goblins, Ciccone, The Fades, Jim Bob, Rhesus and loads more. I thought, Punk rock and acoustic, there's an idea. Chris T-T thought so too. We are honoured to have him on side. Jim Bob will appear as a special guest.
And why should people part with six pounds for this show?
Because you will see the greatest collection of real rock and roll bands and artists playing the greatest music anywhere in London that day, that and us, Paul Joyzine and Piranha Deathray are Djing afterwards. And it is for a good cause: tsunamireliefuk.tk.
What's your favorite colour?
Green.
Keep up the good work!
