Lanegan is indeed one of the most interesting characters around at the moment. There is a sincerity in his work which is missing from a significant amount of artists these days.

  • 00:25, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Note to self, stop using the phrase these days, it makes you sound old.

  • 10:00, 13 May 2008
    paul.sanderspaul.sanders

not nearly as old as 'note to self' makes you sound

Oddly, I don't care for Mark Lanegan nor Isobel Campbell on their own, but I really REALLY like the two albums they've done together

  • 10:20, 13 May 2008

"The Gutter Twins is the long awaited collaboration between Mark Lanegan and former Afghan Whigs/current Twilight Singers vocalist Greg Dulli... Saturnalia was released on March 4, 2008 on Sub Pop,". Was anyone long-awaiting this? M.Lanegan has a good face.

Hit the city is a great track. Anyone know Here Comes That Wierd Chill? It was released just before Bubblegum, containing a few rougher versions, like Methamphetamine Blues, which is spectacular in it's own little swaggery way.

  • 12:34, 13 May 2008

I also am not a huge fan of Isobell Cambell on her own. A bit saccharine for me.

  • 12:36, 13 May 2008

    t you're right - she needs balancing

  • 12:37, 13 May 2008

mainly backing vocals to be honest, but she sings lead on a couple of EP tracks and possibly on the enw album (I can't actually remember)

  • 12:41, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

I'll check it out, to be honest though, the new album suffers most when she is given vocal prominence.

  • 12:42, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

It is hard to sustain a full song of her on her own. Although she is a fantastic accompaniment to certain singers so I will give it a go

  • 12:42, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

    Which track am I after?

haha - wikipedia only has info about him in GERMAN!

  • 12:50, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

  • 12:50, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

    Wow

  • 12:51, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Devil's Plaything was a spectacular track. I'm pretty sure that was her on the ooh's and aaaah's.

  • 12:53, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

yeah, I know for sure she guested on the new album and sang 'Tammy' on the previous EP so I'd guess it was her

  • 12:54, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

either way. Good stuff. Shame only German people like it :-)

  • 12:55, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Yeah, it's still stuck in my head. His vocals are like a less contrived version of The National, I like that.

  • 12:56, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Have you listened to much Michael Cashmore?

  • 12:57, 13 May 2008

He did an amazing EP with Antony Hegarty recentlt called The Snow Abides

  • 12:57, 13 May 2008

    Recently

  • 12:57, 13 May 2008

  • 12:58, 13 May 2008

it odd that Anthony Hegarty seems to socialise with folk like Current 93

  • 12:58, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

ught he was far too... popular for that

  • 12:58, 13 May 2008

  • 13:07, 13 May 2008

  • 13:21, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

yeah - you soak a cigarette in poppers, then you breathe it through the filter, without lighting, of course.

  • 13:21, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

Then you never, ever, do it again.

  • 13:29, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Yeah, nuts to that, if I want to get a blinding headache and feel ridiculously disorientated these days I'll watch television.

  • 13:29, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

Ooh, Itook a wrong turn last night and ended up at CHANNEL FOUR!!!

  • 13:29, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

they really do have a big sculpture that looks like a 4 (but only from the front)

  • 13:30, 13 May 2008

But, that is not to refute your classiness.

  • 13:30, 13 May 2008

Channel four eh, but your young, it is designed specifically for you. And E4

  • 13:33, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

    I'mnot THAT young

  • 13:33, 13 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

I'm more radio 4 than channel 4, for better or worse

  • 13:35, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Radio Four is indeed a much better option. The BBC iplayer is great as well. It's such a great thing to be able to pick and choose the radio shows of your choice. Wasn't that what the future was supposed to be like? BBC7 is quite good too.

  • 14:42, 13 May 2008
    melissa.fehrmelissa.fehr

I wish someone made tivo for DAB. I feel so limited in R4's podcasting choices

  • 14:45, 13 May 2008
    timctimc

    you've got 'listen again'

  • 14:45, 13 May 2008
    timctimc

if you don't mind realmedia streams

  • 15:37, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

The Realmedia streams are ok as long as it is connected with nothing else on your pc, like mp3's or avi's, as long as it's not set as the default player for ANYTHING apart from the radio streams, it doesn't seem to cause too much trouble. That way you can go through the A-Z and listen away until your heart's content.

  • 15:39, 13 May 2008
    zombiehamsterzombiehamster

Which means that afternoons can be spent listening to well thought out documantaries and old comedy shows. Which, as we all know, is not the worst way to spend an afternoon.

  • 15:43, 13 May 2008
    timctimc

i like radio 4 in the morning

  • 15:43, 13 May 2008
    timctimc

the today programme is a far better way to be woken up than incessant frantic beeping

  • 15:44, 13 May 2008
    melissa.fehrmelissa.fehr

Listen Again is tethered to your computer on an internet connection. There's no way to take it with you to listen elsewhere or offline without stream capture hackery that's not worth the hassle. And then you have to do it with every single episode of a programme, which often change date/times

  • 15:44, 13 May 2008
    melissa.fehrmelissa.fehr

Kudos to the Beeb for increasing their podcast output, but I won't be happy until the whole of R4 is podcasted!

  • 15:47, 13 May 2008

you can get In Our Time as a podcast

  • 15:51, 13 May 2008

And The Archers is available as a podcast now - Tee Hee. I would love for them to put up some of Alistair Cooke's old transmissions, I know that they were primarily broadcast on the World Service but it would be great to get a back catalogue of them.

  • 15:51, 13 May 2008

  • 15:54, 13 May 2008
