Bring back the screaming trees
Lanegan is indeed one of the most interesting characters around at the moment. There is a sincerity in his work which is missing from a significant amount of artists these days.
Note to self, stop using the phrase these days, it makes you sound old.
not nearly as old as 'note to self' makes you sound

now where did i put my notes to self
i'm so forgetful these days
Oddly, I don't care for Mark Lanegan nor Isobel Campbell on their own, but I really REALLY like the two albums they've done together
you need a copy of 'bubblegum' melissa
it's excellent
i shall put it on sushi

ooh look at that
you can listen to it on here

i reckon that's the best tracj
track
i agree that isobel campbell on her own can be a little insipid though
although she did an amazing cover of 'willow's song' from the Wicker Man Soundtrack
So did Faith and The Muse, on their excellent album 'Burning Season'

oh yeah I recognise this track, Tim. I think we've had it on the office stereo before
who's the lady singing backup? Sounds like PJ Harvey
i'm not sure
do some detective work
i shall do some detective work, i mean
but yes, you're right - it does!
right on the money:

"'Hit The City' is out now. Taken from the current album 'Bubblegum', and featuring vocals from PJ Harvey"
wow! I didn't think it was actually her. cool

"The Gutter Twins is the long awaited collaboration between Mark Lanegan and former Afghan Whigs/current Twilight Singers vocalist Greg Dulli... Saturnalia was released on March 4, 2008 on Sub Pop,". Was anyone long-awaiting this? M.Lanegan has a good face.

Hit the city is a great track. Anyone know Here Comes That Wierd Chill? It was released just before Bubblegum, containing a few rougher versions, like Methamphetamine Blues, which is spectacular in it's own little swaggery way.
I also am not a huge fan of Isobell Cambell on her own. A bit saccharine for me.

I like her work with Joseph Budenholzer (Backworld)
t you're right - she needs balancing
I am currently unaware of this work. I will investigate further.

mainly backing vocals to be honest, but she sings lead on a couple of EP tracks and possibly on the enw album (I can't actually remember)
You can download his best song here: http://www.myspace.com/backworld
but I don't k now if that has her on
will investigate
I'll check it out, to be honest though, the new album suffers most when she is given vocal prominence.
It is hard to sustain a full song of her on her own. Although she is a fantastic accompaniment to certain singers so I will give it a go
Which track am I after?
devil's plaything
Thank ee
Wow
Devil's Plaything was a spectacular track. I'm pretty sure that was her on the ooh's and aaaah's.
yeah, I know for sure she guested on the new album and sang 'Tammy' on the previous EP so I'd guess it was her
either way. Good stuff. Shame only German people like it :-)
Yeah, it's still stuck in my head. His vocals are like a less contrived version of The National, I like that.
Have you listened to much Michael Cashmore?
He did an amazing EP with Antony Hegarty recentlt called The Snow Abides
Recently
no haven't listened to any
it odd that Anthony Hegarty seems to socialise with folk like Current 93
ught he was far too... popular for that
what's Michael Cashmore's game?
Dunno. Although did you hear Hurculeas & The Love Affair?? Wow. That was....erm....interesting
Antony singing over DFA beats. Aural poppers.
hmm. don't like the thought of poppers in my ears
bad enough in nose/mouth
Hercules...sorry, meatfingers this morning
i quite enjoyed that record
he's got a donna-summer-ish quality about his voice
It was really interesting.
that's rather nice
It was a bit like when Marc Almond And Jimmy Somkmervile got together to re-record I Feel Love/Johnny Remember Me.
Sommerville...dangit

Also, poppers in your mouth?!? Eww. Or anywhere for that matter, nasty, nasty business.
yeah - you soak a cigarette in poppers, then you breathe it through the filter, without lighting, of course.
Then you never, ever, do it again.
whoa how'd we steer into Amy Winehouse teritory all of a sudden?

I'm nothing if not classy
Melissa are you referring to the squalid drugs or the music that's playing in the office?
Yeah, nuts to that, if I want to get a blinding headache and feel ridiculously disorientated these days I'll watch television.
Ooh, Itook a wrong turn last night and ended up at CHANNEL FOUR!!!
they really do have a big sculpture that looks like a 4 (but only from the front)
But, that is not to refute your classiness.
Channel four eh, but your young, it is designed specifically for you. And E4
I'mnot THAT young
I'm more radio 4 than channel 4, for better or worse
Radio Four is indeed a much better option. The BBC iplayer is great as well. It's such a great thing to be able to pick and choose the radio shows of your choice. Wasn't that what the future was supposed to be like? BBC7 is quite good too.
I wish someone made tivo for DAB. I feel so limited in R4's podcasting choices
you've got 'listen again'
if you don't mind realmedia streams
The Realmedia streams are ok as long as it is connected with nothing else on your pc, like mp3's or avi's, as long as it's not set as the default player for ANYTHING apart from the radio streams, it doesn't seem to cause too much trouble. That way you can go through the A-Z and listen away until your heart's content.
Which means that afternoons can be spent listening to well thought out documantaries and old comedy shows. Which, as we all know, is not the worst way to spend an afternoon.
i like radio 4 in the morning
the today programme is a far better way to be woken up than incessant frantic beeping
Listen Again is tethered to your computer on an internet connection. There's no way to take it with you to listen elsewhere or offline without stream capture hackery that's not worth the hassle. And then you have to do it with every single episode of a programme, which often change date/times
Kudos to the Beeb for increasing their podcast output, but I won't be happy until the whole of R4 is podcasted!
you can get In Our Time as a podcast
And The Archers is available as a podcast now - Tee Hee. I would love for them to put up some of Alistair Cooke's old transmissions, I know that they were primarily broadcast on the World Service but it would be great to get a back catalogue of them.
i only normally get to listen to that if i'm excessively lazy on a thursday though
aah really?
i should tell my parents that
I'm trying to avoid the archers
i don't see why ~=1oo% of their speech out put shouldn't be available as podcasts
i mean, it's all done in house so they're not constrained by other rights-holders
It really should be. It would work to there advantage
i guess unless individual producers / presenters etc have rights in the recording
timc invited paul.sanders to I love mark lanegean
Mmmm, I guess so. Especially with older shows, they could be difficult to put on geenral release, which is a damn shame.
