A luxurious dark and fulsome wine whose unique character and aroma set is apart from all other grapes or a jammy unadventurous plonk beloved of those who think they know more than they do about rouge?

timc started stalking Pinot Noir
It's the main red grape variety in Burgundy
and they make some very nice wine there
burgundy is not usually jammy
they also use it in champagne, which is white! crazy.
they take the skins off apparently
This is all I remember from the Unwins 'Wines of the World' staff training booklet.
Obviously by 'jammy' I meant fortunate - fortunate to have gained its status
i don't think history supports your case
history is full of LIES
also, I didn't clarify which position I supported
and clearly I am a FAN of pinot noir
though couldn't claim to be able to justify my choice of favourite red
loire is cheap and nice quite often
never heard of it mate
as in the region?
The Loire Valley
'tis in Burgundy
probably other places too
it's quite a long river
chinon
saumur
but they don't go a bundle on pinot noir
cabernet franc
I like a good Chateauneuf du Pape myself, if I'm feeling slightly wealthy...
...And one of my friends was telling me yesterday evening how carefully-timed imbibing of red wine has helped him to avoid jet-lag.
Myself, I'm always a little dubious of single varietal wines, although I'm open to recommendations...
