Word yo dogs. What you got here is a 29 year old loser still living at home with his parents who spends far too much time on the internet without making any money out of it. However the meds are working better than ever and I appear to have kicked the marijuana habit and toned down the drinking (only completely fuckended twice a week these days) so things are looking up. An early obsession with the band James at the age of 13 led me to the delights of stuff like the Velvets, the smiths, Bowie, Iggy, Patti Smith etc, basically anything Tim Booth liked. Then Oasis happened and I got sucked into Britpop, although I still like some Oasis tunes. Got sidetracked by a mental breakdown at university and wound up rather incongruously listening to stuff like Puff Daddy (something to do with being obsessed by a beautiful French girl with appalling music taste) but have made up for it since. I'd say there's a common American west coast influence in a lot of what I like, from Glasgow school indie like Edwyn Collins/Orange juice, the Delgados and Hefner (are they Glasgow school? whatever) to thoroughly evil psychedelic drone scuzz from the Warlocks, BJM and a load of obscure British bands on the Dream Machine circuit (check out myspace.com/dreammachineuk), to sunny 60s-style powerpop like the Byrds and Teenage Fanclub. There's a lot in between too, especially the stuff I like to dance to, which Craig Charles does a good job of delivering on his 6 music funk show. I really don't know enough about "black music", from 30s blues to hip-hop, but feel there must be more to it than what 1extra seems to play. I do like Craig David though; sorry can't help myself..
